A lovely little brooch/pin, dating to somewhere between c.1900-1920, this features a beautiful blue swirling enamel background with a marcasite border on one side, and a sterling silver engraving on the other. What I find quite unique about this piece (and somewhat strange) is the subject matter on the two sides of the pin. On the enamel and marcasite side, you have what appears to be two crossed torches surrounded by a wreath of laurels. This motif is one that often symbolizes victory or references a military insignia of some sort. So, perhaps this may have been created and circulated post-WWI. However, on the reverse side, a very ornate, almost feminine floral motif is engraved in the silver, appearing as a delicate bouquet. These two images don’t necessarily seem to go together, making this a unique, intriguing piece of history.
