The Nightingale ~ Georgian Enamel Mourning Ring

This yellow gold mourning ring commemorates the the death of an unmarried man by the name Charles Nightingale, dated to the year 1800. The inscription reads “Chas Nightingale Gil(?) ob 24th Nov 1800 Æ 21”
The ring is a size 9, and it comes with the box. I do my best to research the background of this ring, but I was met with no luck. I even started searching individual parish records, birth and death dates, but I couldn’t find an exact match. Even with the hallmark in the ring, and the box it came in, I couldn’t find anymore information about its provenance. It’s possible that the box is original to the ring, though I suspect it may not be, as the maker’s mark stamp on the inside of the ring are different than the jeweler’s stamp on the inside of the ring box.
Regardless, this is a beautiful and fine piece that commemorates a man who died young and unwed (as the white enamel indicates), and although we don’t know much about him now, the creation of such a fine ring at the time of his passing shows that there were those who cared very deeply for him during his life.
Condition notes: The ring is in overall good condition, but not perfect. Most of the enamel is legible, with some minor chipping in spots; however, there does appear to be one notable area of damage and potentially attempted repair around the “Gil” section. In this section, there is a letter or letters missing/incomplete (perhaps the full name is Giles?)

The United States Postal Service offers both domestic and international shipping with options to insure a package and have signed delivery; however, UPS is also available for domestic shipping but will cost more. These options should be automatically calculated at checkout. For international shipping, USPS, DHL, and UPS Express International are the options available through Shopify. RETURN POLICY:
I am happy to accept returns within 14 days of receipt of the item if you aren’t happy with your purchase, so long as the item is returned undamaged in its original condition.
