Meet The Astraea: Named for the Greek Goddess of stars, the Astraea dates to the Victorian era, and is a shining example of that era's fondness for celestial-themed jewelry. During the 19th century, more and more came to be known about the cosmos, and that fascinated the rapidly industrializing society to no end. Plus, it probably didn’t hurt that there were also some fashion icons, like Empress Sisi, around to popularize such motifs.

The Astraea is set with a total of 37 white old mine-cut, old European-cut, and rose-cut diamonds. The principal diamond is 3.5mm x 3.3mm, the brooch is 3.2cm in diameter, and it weighs 6.7g. It is unmarked, and fitted with a safety chain that could be removed in order to use that loop as a pendant loop. The setting has no visible stone replacement or repair signs. The central stone clarity and color estimation VS, G. The brooch has no hallmarks or stamps, but was described as "presumed gold" (likely silver-topped gold) by the auction house I purchased it from.
